Pop politics
Qiu Jie New Works Exhibition offers a window into the imagination of the artist, at the Shanghai Gallery of Art. Born in 1961, in Shanghai, Qiu began his career as a political propaganda painter before moving to Switzerland 20 years ago. There he developed a pop political style to depict his vision of the world, creating a realism built up of storyboards and cinematographic shots.
His fine pencil strokes evoke memories of China - landscapes, portraits, historical or anecdotal scenes - while the artist's recent drawings and paintings extend into the gallery space, accompanying theatrical installations.

Young girl ensemble
A feast of Miyazaki Hayo and Joe Hisaishi's classics is due to be performed tonight.
The Tokyo Brass Style, a team of 11 young women has worked with Hayo's Studio Ghibli and taken part of the recordings of Hayo and Hisaishi.

Piano concert
Young pianist Song Siheng will give a recital of Sergey Prokofiev's works. The program includes Romeo and Juliet, Piano Concerto No 3 in C Major Op 26, Symphony No 5 in B-flat Major Op 100.
Song was a childhood prodigy and won the Margarite Long-Jacques Thibaudet Competition in 2004.

Traditional music
The Twelve Girls Band will give a concert of new folk music.
The members, who play traditional Chinese instruments, all come from national symphony orchestras. The group, founded in 2001, has won praise for its presentation of traditional Chinese music in a contemporary style.

Oil paintings
Spot Art Gallery, which belongs to the Consulate General of Italy in Guangzhou, will present a collection of oil paintings by artists from Metro Line 3 Art Space.
The group was established in 2004 as the largest community of contemporary artists in Guangzhou, as well as southern China.

Animamix aesthetics
