Original musical Master Hong Yi chronicles the life of Hong Yi, an intellectual-turned-monk in the 20th century. Born to a wealthy family, Li Shutong studied Western art and music in Japan before returning to China to work at a teachers' training school. Li later moved on to more celestial pursuits and changed his name to Hong Yi.
