In Beijing, the second local Youth Drama Festival is underway, and this year's event aims to showcase the latest stage productions by young people who live and dream, right here in the Chinese capital.
The second Youth Drama Festival opened at the Beijing Beehive Theater on Monday. The opening ceremony was attended by promising dramatists, as well as veteran playwrights and stage artists. Among them were the president of China's National Drama Theater and some renowned directors and actors.
Drama director Meng Jinghui said, "Young drama directors and playwrights must express and convey their ideas. They have to give their understanding of contemporary society. That is the most important aspect of their creative efforts."
Drama player Pu Cunxi said, "Some people think that the young are too self-centered. But I have found their free-thinking and devotion very admirable. They are looking at the world from a fresh, original perspective. They never try to flatter anyone. I admire such an attitude."
The festival will last 20 days. During that period, 22 dramas will be staged by more than 30 young directors and playwrights. There will also be lectures, seminars, and concerts. The festival is expected to entertain an audience of more than 30-thousand.
