The Zhengzhou Opera and Dance Drama Theater will stage the dance drama Shaolin in the Wind, in Beijing. It is a creative combination of music, dance and martial arts, a cooperation between playwright Feng Shuangbai, composer Tang Jianping and the performers. It tells of a Shaolin monk whose fate it is to be turned from an ordinary person into a hero. Among the kung fu performances and war scenes, the story also deals with the tragic love story between the hero and his beloved woman.

The Peony Pavilion, the classic Kunqu Opera, is on at the Imperial Granary, a perfect venue. The Imperial Granary was rebuilt in the Ming Dynasty, 600 years ago, at exactly the same time the Kunqu Opera was written.

The Chinese Acrobatics Group has toured more than 80 countries and helped foster friendships with them. Its performance includes traditional acrobatics, a circus show, magic and old Beijing folk plays. The show blends music, dance, local opera and martial arts.

CONCERTS

Canadian pianist Roger Lord will hold his solo concert in Beijing. Lord performs in a delicate and unconstrained style, featuring both classic and modern compositions. The program includes Jean Philippe Rameau's Harpsichord Music Vol 2, Liszt's Meditation, Chopin's Waltz Op 64 No 2 in C Sharp Minor and Waltz Op 34 No 1, as well as Chinese composer Wang Jianzhong's Colorful Clouds Chase the Moon and Liuyang River.
