History and legends
The ancient and unique Baima Tibetans are descendants of the Baima Fan
people. A long time ago, a military troop stormed into the a village dwelled by
Baima people, who despite valiantly resistinged the invaders in three battles
times within a year, but failed in the end due to great disparity in the number
of people. As a result, only a few more than 300 survived out of a total of
overmore than 50,000 villagers:, these survivorswho had no choice but to retreat
into the deep forest, living across the border between China's southwestern
Sichuan and northwestern Gansu provinces.
Today, their descendants, numbering 10,000 in total, are scattered in 4 towns
of Pingwu County and 11 towns of Jiuzhaigou
County of Sichuan pProvince as well as another 10 towns of Gansu province, all
together covering an area of 70 million square kilometers.
