The Forest

The protection station lies in the dense forest, partly
hidden and partly visible. | The forest an area covered by a dense primitive forest, is
a major attraction that provides travelers a narrow but beautiful vision. Bamboo
forests abound here, with plenty of weathered trees and vines overgrown with
moss lining along the road. Moeru frogs as big as a fist can be seen lying by
the roadside every now and then.
At the forest's entrance stands a plate that reads, "What will we do without
forest?" This is the slogan of the Red Beach protection station, which is
located in the deep forest by a thick forest of bajiao banana. The station, a
Diaojiao wooden house, was built on a small piece of flat land, where there used
to stand a research institution on animals and plants.
There are only three full-time workers in the station: a stationmaster and
two staff workers. They stay there all year long here and live an almost
secluded life without even a TV or radio. They grow vegetables by themselves,
but have to buy rice and meat from outside the forest. Therefore, they always
feel very excited whenever they see a traveler hiking into the forest.
Along the valley near the Red Beach Station is a path leading directly to the
foot of the mountain. Right across the path is the roaring Red Beach waterfall,
flowing into a 400-square-meter pool at the mountain foot. From there, water
flows out quickly through a narrow mouth. Some small streamlined waterfalls can
also be seen flowing along the surrounding precipitous cliffs, winding all the
way down.
At the bottom of the valley, the air is saturated with moisture. Rarely
visited by human beings, all the rocks here are overgrown with sciophilous
plants (plants that thrive in growing under shade) and the ground is covered
with rotten leaves.
