Tiantai Mountain
** Shiliang Scenic Resort Area
The area boasts clear hills, clear waters and thriving ancient trees, as well
as the world-renowned rarity, "Shiliang Falls." A natural stone bridge stretches
over the valley connecting two mountains, with a drop of more than 40 meters,
offering a breathtaking view. Inside the area are also beautiful scenic spots,
such as Leaking Copper Pot, Water Drop Curtain, Dragon Brook, etc.
** Hanshan Lake
With its beautiful landscape, the lake covers an area of 650,000 square
meters, embodying 37 gulfs, nine small islands, and 30,000 mu (2,000
hectares) of forest-covered hills surrounding the lake. Here, one can admire the
high mountain and lake and many green-topped hills. With convenient
transportation and a broad area for tourist development, it is a prime spot for
a tourist-resort village.
** Han and Ming Rocks
Small but exquisite strange stones and peculiar rocks resemble water and
stone miniature scenery, including two resorts -- Han Rock and Ming Rock. Han
Rock was the Tang Dynasty Monk Hanshanzi's hermitage. At sunset, the pond water
in front of the rock reflects the sunlight, giving the structure a splendid
sheen -- hence its name, "Han Rock Sunset." Ming Rock sits opposite to Han Rock,
with a steep cliff reaching high up into the sky.
Tiantai Mountain legend
In the fifth year of Yongping (AD 62) during the reign of Emperor Mingdi of
the Han Dynasty (206BC-AD220), Liu Chen and Ruan Zhao of Shanxian went to
Tiantai Mountain to collect husks, but they lost their way and could not find
the road home. After 13 days, their rations had been exhausted and the men were
dying of hunger. Suddenly, in the distance on the mountain, they spotted a peach
tree laden with fruit. Although the tree teetered on a great precipice with no
path, the men managed to reach the top. After eating several peaches, their
hunger had abated and their strength had returned. On their way down, as they
filled their cups with water and were about to wash, the men noticed some fresh
turnip leaves floating down from the gully and a wooden cup filled with sesame.
