      Ancient City of Pingyao    
      This is the best-preserved historic townscape in the regions populated by the Han people, and it was added into the World Heritage List as a world's culture heritage on December 3, 1997.
   
      Yungang Grottoes    
      Located at some 16 km west of Datong City, Shanxi Province, the Yungang Grottoes were built against Wuzhou Mountain and extend about 1 km from east to west.    
      Hengshan Mountain    
      Hengshan Mountain is located in Hunyuan County of Shanxi Province in northern China. It is the Northern Mountain of the Five Sacred Mountains.    
      Jinci Temple    
      The figures of maidservants made during the Song Dynasty, the Zhou Cypress and the "Never Aging Spring" (Nanlao Fountain) are the three wonders of Jinci Temple.    
      Wutai Mountain    
      Located in Wutai Country of Shanxi Province, 240 kilometers from the provincial capital of Taiyuan, the mountain is actually a cluster of five terrace-like peaks.    
      Living Treasures at Dingcun    
      Reputed as national treasures, more than 40 dwellings dating from the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911) are preserved here.      
      Sakyamuni Pagoda    
      The Sakyamuni Pagoda, mostly built with timber, is the few existing wooden pagoda and also the tallest in the world. It is a Buddhist Palace Monastery in Yingxian County, Shanxi Province.     
 
      Datong Volcanoes    
      The Datong volcanoes are located northeast of Datong City at Xigelaoshan, just 3km from the downtown area. It is the only area in North China where volcanoes are concentrated.    
      Hukou Waterfall     
      The Hukou Waterfall is the second-largest waterfall in China after the Huangguoshu Waterfall in Guizhou Province; it is, however, the largest waterfall on the Yellow River.    
      Historic Homes in Shanxi     
 
      While the country's palaces, temples, pagodas and walled cities are well known, there is also a wealth of ancient villages and noteworthy ancient structures by wealthy merchants.
