Tiantai Mountain in Zhejiang Province

Located in the eastern central part of Zhejiang Province, Tiantai Mountain is a world famous national scenic place of interest, and also the birthplace of the Tiantai School and the Lotus School of Buddhism.     

With a total area of 187 square kilometers, the Tiantai Mountain Scenic Resort is rich in tourist resources, and known as the mystical mountain at the original place of Buddhism. The eminent monk in the Sui Dynasty (581-618), the Wisdom Master, founded the Tiantai School of Buddhism on this mountain, which was considered by the Japanese Buddhism as the original place of Japanese Buddhism's Tiantai School and Lotus School.

Tiantai Mountain is the home of Monk Jigong, the living Buddha, and there is a Temple of Monk Jigong. The Shiliang Faguang Temple is reputed as the hall of Five Hundred Arhats. Wannian (ten thousand years) Temple is listed as one of the famous Ten Buddhist Zen Temples on Five Mountains, and the Gaoming Temple is listed as one of the National Key Buddhist Temples. On the mountaintop, there are a reading chamber of Li Bai, a famous poet of the Tang Dynasty (618-907), and the ink pond of Wang Xizhi, China's famous calligrapher.     

The natural scenery of Tiantai Mountain is of special flavor. With stone beam mounting over the valley, waterfalls running down along the steep cliffs, and the thundering sound, it assumes a majestic view. The Huading Peak is always surrounded by clouds, hence the name Cloud Lingers on Huading. It is the best place to view sunrise and the sea of clouds. Tiantai Mountain boasts countless oddly shaped stones, peculiar rocks, secluded caves, running waterfalls, clear springs, ancient trees, and rare flowers, birds and animals. It is known as mystical and beautiful hills and waters, and the original place of Buddhism and Taoism.
