The Sanqing Lake is located at the foot of
Sanqing Mountain, which is a national key scenic spot lying 16 kilometers north
of Yushan County, Jiangxi Province. The lake originates from the Sanqing
Mountain, hence its name Sanqing Lake. It is 46 kilometers long and 3 kilometers
at the widest. In contrast to the torrential current at upper reaches of the
lake, the lower reaches of the lake are peaceful and limpid, which is a perfect
place to tour around by boat or bamboo raft. The main sights of the Sanqing Lake
Scenic Area include the Sanqing Lake, Shaohua Mountain, the Eight Immortals
Cave, and the Buddhist Saint Cave.
Shaohua
Mountain
Lying on the lakeside, Shaohua
Mountain has various peculiar peaks and rocks together with stretches of forests
and bamboos as well as some historic sites such as the Lingguan Palace, the
Yiting Pavilion, the Caishen Temple, the Shaohua Twin-Tower, and the Yellow
Cliff Temple. Climbing up to the mountain summit and looking far into the
distance, one will have a panoramic view of the Sanqing Lake and feel relaxed
and happy.
Eight Immortals
Cave
The Eight Immortals Cave lies at the
mountainside of Dashanmu Mountain in Tucheng Village of Purple Lake Town. The
cave is 1 kilometer to Purple Lake and land transportation is very convenient.
It is round at the mouth and deep inside, with water dripping from the walls all
year round. Near the cave is a deep pool, covering an area of about 80 square
meters. With a slope on one side and steep cliffs on the other two sides, the
pool is surrounded by tall trees. Water rushes through two huge rocks lying to
the west and pours into the pool, spattering sprays of water. A gap opens on the
east side of the pool, from where water flows out slowly.
Buddhist Saint Cave
Lying at the west foot of Shuihua Mountain,
the Buddhist Saint Cave is over 200 meters long and covers an area of 600 square
meters. A stone column carved with patterns towers up to the cave ceiling, which
is called the jade pillar that props up the sky by local people. To its left
side is a stone drum, producing sound when beaten. A stone bowl lies next to the
drum. One amusing thing is that water in the bowl never spills out or dries
out.
