The Site of the Institute for the
Farmers' Movement in Guangzhou City is at No.42, Zhongshan Silu (the Fourth
Road) in Guangzhou City of Guangdong Province.
The Institute for the Farmers' Movement in
Guangzhou City was built in July 1924. There were 6 terms altogether, with the
first two terms held in Huizhou Assembly Hall, and the third, fourth, fifth term
held at No.1, Donggao Road. The sixth term was moved to Fanyu Xuegong at
Zhongshan Silu. Mao Zedong assumed the position of the principal. Xiao
Chunu assumed the position of the dean. Zhou Enlai, Qu
Qiubai, Wu Yuzhang, Peng Pai, and Deng Zhongfu were the teachers. They taught
the courses about the farmers' movement, and fostered a lot of backbone talents
for the Chinese Revolution. Many core cadres of the farmers' movement had
studied there.
The site of the institute was originally a
Confucian Temple built in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). In the Qing Dynasty
(1644-1911), it was occupied by Fanyu School. It was a group of ancient
buildings made of bricks and timber. There are relics such as Dacheng Gate,
Lingxing Gate, Dacheng Hall, Chongsheng Hall, eastern and western penthouses,
the eastern wing room, etc. In 1953, the site of the institute was restored to
the original appearance. Now the office of Mao Zedong, the Educational
Administration Department, the Military Training Department, General Affairs
Department, the reading room, classrooms, students' dormitories and the dining
hall, etc, remain extant there.
