Yagou Stone Carving

The Yagou Stone Carving is located in the latter part of the western cliff of Shiren Mountain, 2.5 kilometers east of Yagou in A'cheng County, Heilongjiang Province.

Today, the carvings display two human images -- a man and a woman -- sitting together like a couple. The male, a warrior, measures 1.85 meters in height and 1.05 meters in width. Facing southwest, he reflects the typical image of the Nuzhen, with iron armor, a tight, short coat, cloak, boots and a sword. The woman, a noble lady of Nuzhen, dons a hat, sitting with her legs crossed. The outer line of the carving is 3 to 5 mm deep. The simple, rough sketch was engraved using a metal tool and then refined. Due to erosion from wind and rain, some lines are vague and appear incomplete. Judging from the style, it is believed the carving belongs to the early Jin Dynasty (1115-1234).
