Jiaoshan Stele Forest

The Jiaoshan Stele Forest is located in the Baomo Veranda on the eastern foot of Jiaoshan Mountain in Zhenjiang City, Jiangsu Province.

In 1048, countrymen built the Baomo Pavilion for collecting stone inscriptions from the Liang (502-557) and Tang (618-907) Dynasties. The pavilion was destroyed and rebuilt several times. In the Daoguang reign, people built the Haiyun Temple for collections. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the Stele Forest was set up on the seat of the Haiyun Temple, Xianglin Temple and Yufeng Temple with 330 steles from the Southern Dynasties (420-589), Tang, (618-907) Song (960-1279), Yuan (1271-1368), Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) Dynasties. Written in all character styles, they are the treasures of the calligraphy circle. Following another destruction and rebuilding during the Cultural Revolution, the forest now has 463 steles -- 201 of which are historical, 52 about art and 210 about calligraphy.

On the western foot of Jiaoshao Mountain, along the riverbank, are inscriptions by over 200 famous people since the Southern Dynasties Period, including Mi Fu, Lu You, etc.
