The Qingyuan Building

The Qingyuan Building is situated in the center of Xuanhua City in Zhangjiakou, Hebei Province.

Built in 1482 during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), the building has many distinct Ming features. It has three stories 17 meters high with a 7.5-meter-high pier base and is five bays wide and seven bays deep. The building contains triple-layered eaves and winding corridors that surround it. A bronze bell made during the reign of Emperor Jiajing of the Ming Dynasty hangs inside the building. At 2.5 meters high and 1.7 meters in diameter, the bell weighs over 5,000 kilograms and sends out a thunderous sound that can be heard over 40 li (20 km) away. The architectural style of the Qingyuan Building is seldom seen in China and has a high artistic value.
