Former Residence of Song Qingling in Beijing

The former residence of Song Qingling is located at No. 46, Beiheyan, Houhai, Beijing City.


The former residence of Song Qingling in Beijing is a park-styled yard, which was originally a garden of Chunqinwang's (Prince of Chun) palace in Qing Dynasty. There are Long Corridor, Enbo Pavilion, Nan Lou (South Tower), Tingyu Lou (a tower where people can listen to the fall of rain) and Halls of Haoliang Lequ and Chang Jinzhai, which are original architectures of the palace of the prince. It also has other views like lakes and rockeries. The main building of the Residence is a two-storeyed tower with both Chinese and western flavor, which originated from the initial hall and connected to it. There are a small living room, a small dining room, an infirmary and a secretary office on the first floor. Upstairs, there are a study room and a bedroom of Song Qingling and living places for the secretary and other staff.


In September 1949, Song Qingling was invited by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China to Beijing from Shanghai to attend the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. From then on, she began to live in Beijing and moved to this place in 1963. She was then honorary Chairman of the People's Republic of China, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of National People's Congress (NPC). Since she moved to this place, she had lived here for 18 years till she passed away on May 29, 1981.
