Construction of national digital museum on the agenda

China Digital Museum has been officially put onto the agenda and has passed the mid-term acceptance check.

Upon the completion of the digital museum, people will be able to appreciate exquisite painted human-headed jar excavated in Yangshao, the imperial jade seal collected in the Palace Museum and other national treasures  online, as well as terra-cotta warriors and horses from the Mausoleum of the First Emperor of the Qin Dynasty, and so on.

According to Dr. Qi Yue with Beijing University of Aeronautics & Astronautics, the digital museum is an information service system that integrates computer science, communication science and museum science, and it is able to collect, manage, exhibit and process information about movable and immovable cultural relics and can provide Internet users with digital exhibition, education as well as research via the Internet.

Mr. Yao Zhao, the head of the Technological Information Section under the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, said that the State Administration of Cultural Heritage had started preparations for the establishment of a digital museum years before and stepped up the work in the recent two years.

Mr. Yao added that China Digital Museum actually acts as a virtual exhibition platform of all contents of Chinese cultural heritage.
