The Gan and Shi Book of the Stars

The Gan and Shi Book of the Stars is the earliest astronomic work in the world. Gan De and Shi Shen from the Chu and Wei States of Warring States Period, based on their long-time observation of the celestial phenomena, each wrote an astronomic book. The later generations combined their books, naming it The Gan and Shi Book of the Stars.

The book boasts a record of the names of over 800 stars, and the positions of 121 of the stars have been pinpointed, constituting the world' s earliest star chart. Besides, the movement of five planets (Jupiter, Mars٬Saturn, Venus, and Mercury) and the rule dictating their appearances were also recorded.
