Jingwei Determines to Fill Up Sea

On Fajiu Hill, among the many mulberry trees, lived a crow-like bird with a colorful head, white beak and red claws. Its call sounded like its name -- Jingwei. It was believed that Jingwei was Emperor Yandi's youngest daughter who had drowned while playing in the East Sea. According to legend, Jingwei, who had turned into a bird, carried twigs and stones all the way from the West Mountain to fill up the East Sea.

Although it was impossible for such a little bird to fill the entire sea, Jingwei is honored for her determination and tenacity.
