In April 1999, the Chinese Ministry of Culture invited 13 renowned photographers from 11 countries successively to China for creation of photographic art. This activity lasted for half a year and the footprints of the photographers cover 27 provinces, cities and autonomous regions, such as Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Hebei, Henan, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan, Guangdong, Shandong, Hunan, Hubei, Anhui, Gansu, Qinghai, Heilongjiang, Liaoning, Jilin, Tibet, Guangxi and Xinjiang.

139 pieces of work, selected from 150 pieces of work provided by each photographer, are printed and published as a photo album, 500 copies in hard cover and 1,500 copies in paper cover.

From May 6th to June 4th, 2000, the exhibition of China in Focus '99 -- China in Eyes of Foreign Photographers is held, displaying 150 pieces of work at the China Art Gallery as an important component part of the large-scale get-together activity of Meeting in Beijing, 2000. That exhibition is sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and undertaken by the China Foreign Exhibition Center.

In September 2000, that exhibition will be held in Nanjing as an item of 6th China Art Festival.

The exhibition will be held successively all over the world.
