1. Highest Record in History for Export Total
In the year of 2000, the export total of China exceeds 200
billion US dollars, creating the highest record in the history. The export
volume of Shenzhen, the window of Chinese reforms and opening-up, takes 14%
of the export volume of the whole country. Seen here is a new dock at the
Yantian Harbor, Shenzhen City. The cargoes exported from here are shipped in an
endless stream to all over the world.

2. China, No.1 in the World to Produce
Vegetables and Fruits
On April 20th, 2001, the World
Vegetables Expo held in China is opened in Shouguang City, Shandong Province --
the well-known home of vegetables. The girls of Shouguang, dressed in the form
of vegetables, welcome over 500 participants from over 20 countries to
participate in technical exchanges and economic cooperation.

3. State-Owned Enterprises Making Initial
Progress in Reforms
At the end of the year of 2000, the
reforms of Chinese state-owned large- and medium-scale enterprises and the
target of getting rid or poverty in three years were basically materialized, the
economic effects of the enterprises and the revenue were increased by a big
margin and the quality of the economic operation was further improved. On May
1st, 2001, the public holiday, workers of the Tonghua Iron and Steel Group
Company in Jilin, one of the key iron-and-steel enterprises in China, are still
at the front line of production. The sparks flying off molten iron in the
workshop look like fireworks bursting forth at a festival.

4. State-Owned Enterprises under Modern
Management
Anyang Color TV Tube Glass Shell Co.,
Ltd. in Henan Province exercises strict scientific management and has made
continuous technical creation. By the year of 2000, its production scale had
ranked first in the counterpart industry at home and fifth in the world. The
automatic production line adopted by that company greatly improves its
production efficiency and product quality.

5. Capital Iron and Steel Works'
Transformation to High-Tech Products
The product transformation of the
Capital Iron and Steel Works located at the west of Beijing was steadily
implemented in the year of 2000 to readjust its product structure and to develop
software and electronic products as its main products, playing a favorable role
for the development of new economy and environmental protection in Beijing. The

6. Haire Group Convening Its Global
Managers
On February 11th, 2001, 38 manager of
Haire Group from 21 countries gather together for the first time at the Haire
Headquarters in Qingdao to exchange experiences and to seek the way for common
development and creation. They represent 10 plants, 14 trade centers and a
network of over 38,000 dealers. Seen in the photo is President Michael of the
American Region of Haire Group delivering a speech. Haire Group is the
representative of the Chinese state-owned enterprise to adapt itself positively
to the economic globalization and to win in the competition.

7. Overseas Companies Deeply in Love with
Hong Kong
Up to June 1st, 2001, the overseas
companies that had set up regional headquarters or offices in Hong Kong amounted
to3001, an increase of 20% compared with the last year. In the four years since
the founding of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, a series of measures
have been taken to successfully resist the impact of the financial storm in Asia
and to make the economy in Hong Kong restore and develop steadily. At present,
Hong Kong is not only an international financial center but also an assembly
area of Asia and Pacific headquarters of overseas transnational corporations.

8. Largest Project of Exterior-Territorial
Processing Trade of China Settled in Mexico
On May 28th, 2001, the ceremony of
completion and going into operation of the cotton mill of the Huayuan Textile
Industrial Co., Ltd. of China is held in a small city in the northern part of
Mexico. This mill, a cotton spinning enterprise invested with US$ 100 million
solely by Huyuan Textile Industrial Co., Ltd. of China and the largest project
of exterior-territorial processing trade of China, turns out 14,000 tons of
various kinds of yarn annually. Seen here are a Mexican woman worker (left), and

language barrier for communication, many Mexican workers have made good friends
with the Chinese workers.

9. Real Estate, a Stable Increasing Point of
Chinese Economy
During the period of the golden week
of May 1st 2001, apartments in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangdong sell well.
Visit and purchase of apartment becomes a hot and leisure way to spend the
holiday. Seen here is an apartment show of Holiday Apartment Market held by
Shanghai World Trade Center. Citizens are seen lingering in front of the scale
models of apartment buildings prepared by over 60 real estate
companies.

10. Shareholders Showing Great Interest in
B-Shares
February 28th, 2001 is the first
trading day for domestic shareholders to enter into B-shares. As soon as the
opening quotation of 102 B-shares are given in Shanghai and Shenzhen, the whole
line reaches the upper limit. The index of Shanghai B-Shares closes at 91.42
points while that of Shenzhen at 946.41. The photo shows a 73-year old
shareholder smiling with happiness on seeing the whole line of B-shares reaches
the upper limit. With the approval of the China Securities Regulatory Commission
(CSRC) and State Administration of Exchange Control, the B-share market, used to
open only to the exterior-territorial investors, is also open to investors
within the territory. Investors within the territory can open a B-share account
and trade B-share shares with the foreign exchange legally held.

11. Order-form Agriculture Bringing
Farmers Double Profits
Minzhong Vegetable and Foodstuffs
Industrial General Plant at Putian, Fujian Province, a demonstration engineering
of agricultural industrialization of China, amasses the separated agricultural
households and enterprises for joint operation with the order-form contract by
establishing an industrial chain of vegetables bases, food processing and
products export so as to get profit with growing vegetables and processing
agricultural products. As a result, the Plant is praised as A Plant Making
Farmers Richer. So far that Plant has established over 30 different forms of
vegetable bases in the 12 villages and towns of Putian City, with 20,000 mu (a
traditional unit of area, equal to 0.165 acre) of growing areas and good sales

13. Concrete Pouring for Permanent Ship Lock
at Three Gorges Engineering Entering Core Stage
The concrete pouring for the
permanent ship lock at the Three Gorges Engineering is now entering the core
stage. Seen here is a photo of the southern line of the permanent ship lock, the
lock chamber, with its concrete pouring basically finished. The Three-Gorges
Engineering is the largest engineering of the key water control project of China
that spans the centuries.

14. Entire Line of Green Avenue for
Olympics Games Application in Beijing Open to Traffic
On June 9th, 2001, the whole line of
4th Ring Freeway, with the total length of 65.3 kilometers, is open to traffic.
This freeway will link with all the various main stadiums and gyms of the
Olympic Games under planning. Shown here is the Sihuan (4th Ring) Motorway
Interchange, in the shape of a palm-leaf fan, at the 4th Ring
Motorway.
