Fireworks light up the sky during
celebrations marking the 10th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the
motherland at the Victoria Harbor in Hong Kong, south China, on July 1,
2007.
Celebrations are under way across China marking the tenth anniversary of Hong
Kong's return to the motherland. Festivities reached a crescendo Sunday night in
a spectacular fireworks display in Hong Kong's Victoria Harbor.
"Harbor Extravaganza" - a dazzle of glitter, incandescence and exploding
pyrotechnics with musical accompaniment, lit up the environs of Victoria Harbor.
The ballet of light played out amid Hong Kong's famous skyscrapers and down onto
the water front. The 36 minute display, incorporating the famous "Symphony of
Lights," lit up the night with more than 30 thousand fireworks.
The show is divided into 10 scenes, beginning with "Salute to our
Motherland." Around 370,000 Hong Kong residents and tourists crowded along the
shore of Victoria Harbor to witness the splendid display.

The show struck a universal note
during the second scene, as the sky came alive with three Chinese characters
"Zhong Guo Ren", meaning "Chinese people".
