An exhibition of intangible cultural heritage masterpieces opened
on May 23 in the National Intangible Cultural Heritage Park in Chengdu. As one
of the major events in the First International Intangible Cultural Heritage
Festival, this exhibition, where more than 1,000 intangible cultural heritage
items are displaced, attracted more than 10,000 visitors on its first day.
Paper-making is one of the four great inventions of China. Xuan paper, or
rice paper, is one of "the four study treasures" (writing brush, ink stick, ink
slab, paper), and is the outstanding representative of traditional handmade
paper with a history more than 1500 years.
