Spring Festival, Tibetan New Year coincide with double celebration

For Yuzhoin, a young Tibetan mother, Sunday was a rare opportunity for a double celebration as the Chinese traditional Spring Festival and the first day of the Tibetan New Year fell on the same day this year.

Yuzhoin, whose father is Han Chinese and mother is Tibetan, celebrated the two festivals according to the different customs of the two ethnic groups.

"On the eve of the Tibetan New Year and Spring Festival, our whole family gathered together and had "Jiaozi", a Han Chinese tradition," said Yuzhoin.

The family then prepared Tibetan food such as dough balls, dried beef and butter tea on Sunday.
