Headed by Cao Chunliang, director of the Guangdong (South China)
Provincial Government's Cultural Department, the working committee of the
Seventh Asia Arts Festival (to be held in Guangdong's Foshan)
arrived at New Delhi, capital of India, on May 15.
On the morning of May 16, Yang Linhai, the Cultural Counselor of the Chinese
Embassy in India, accompanied the working committee to hold a talk with the
Indian official in charge of external cultural relations.
Cao introduced Guangdong
Province and the venue of the Arts Festival to the Indian side, and invited
a ten-member troupe to take part in the festival.
Wang Chen, a member of the working committee, introduced the scale and
performing form of the festival, while Xing Shimiao, the general artistic
director of the festival, brought some detailed requirements for the troupe's
program to follow.
The Indian official expressed his gratitude as well as his desire to send a
troupe of about 20 members, who would endeavor to comprehensively demonstrate
Indian culture despite their limited numbers.
The working committee will end their inspection and visit to India on May 18,
before going on to Pakistan for a visit.
