'Courtyard South of North Street' presented in Hangzhou
Updated: 2004-09-25

"Courtyard South of North Street" performed by Beijing People's Art Theater was presented in Hangzhou Theater on September 23, winning high praise from audiences.

The drama, against a background of SARS outbreak, evolves around the affects and humorous daily trivia at a courtyard isolated during the SARS outbreak. Investing his passion and exploiting vivid theatrical dialogue, the playwright portrays a group of characters, who showcase the courage, selflessness, optimism and open-mindedness in face of this unexpected disaster. With many twists and turns, the play brings a strong Beijing Hutong cultural atmosphere onto the stage。

"The biggest characteristic of this drama features a Beijing accent and the representative customs of Beijing, such as diabolo and kite, also make appearances in the drama", as is said by one of the audience.

It is the first time that "Courtyard South of North Street" was staged in Hangzhou as a candidate program of the Seventh China Arts Festival.
