Updated: 2004-09-20

Yue Opera: Bob Up Again

Time: September 15-16

Venue: Shangyu Theater

Performance£ºBy the Zhuji Yue Opera Troupe

In the middle of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, 317-420, the whole court went corrupt and was increasingly plagued by domestic problems and foreign invasion by the Former Qin, 351-394.

Stricken by the initial failure in the"Battle of the Feihe River" (in which the Eastern Jin crushed the far more numerous army of the Former Qin) and accused by the General Hengwen for unknown reasons, Xie'an, the then prime minister, retired to a country hermitage.

Hengqiang, the daughter of Hengwen, was a bosom friend of Xie'an. When the Eastern Jin army suffered a series of setbacks and the soldiers of the Former Qin arrived at the Feihe River again, Hengqiang travelled a long way to find Xie'an and persuaded him to come back and save the nation at the critical moment.

This opera, against the backdrop of the famous"Battle of the Feihe River", boasts a clear story structure, a perfect stage design and a strong acting cast.
