The Seventh China Arts Festival kicks off in Hanzhou Updated: 2004-09-10
On the night of September 10, the gala named "Sunlight in Heaven" kicks off
in Huanglong Gymnasium of Zhejiang
province, marking the opening of the Seventh China Arts Festival.
Themed on "a feast of arts and a festival for the people", the festival is a
culture and art gala. It will stage 102 performances of 51 candidate plays for
the Wenhua Award, nearly 100 performances for celebrating the arts festival, 24
invited performances from Hong
Kong, Macro and Taiwan,
10 performances for the final contest of the Stars Award, 7 mass cultural
activities and 24 exhibitions and cultural exchanges. It is to be held on
September 10-26 in Hangzhou,
Ningbo,
Wenzhou, Shaoxing
and Jiaxing.
The top governmental awards -- Wenhua Award and China Arts Festival Award,
will be decided at the festival, marking the first ever combination of the two
events. Professional and amateur performances will be staged during the
festival, which makes the gala a real "festival for the people".
The art gala will expose directly up to a million spectators during the
17-day arts festival.
