Review of Asian Arts Festivals

Approved by the State Council of China and sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, the 1st Asian Arts Festival was inaugurated in Beijing in 1998. Up to now, 5 AAF festivals have been held successfully.

The previous 5 AAF festivals have enjoyed attention and care from China's state leaders, as well as the support of Asian governments and active response and participation of cultural workers and artists from Asian countries. Chinese President Jiang Zemin, Indian President Abdul Kalam and other Chinese and Asian state leaders have attended the art performances and related activities. 22 countries have sent over 80 arts groups in total to participate in the festivals over the years.

The previous 5 AAF festivals have enhanced the mutual understanding and friendship among Asian countries, and aroused greater awareness and pride of Asian countries in Asian cultures. These festivals have also accumulated experiences and expertise for future sessions and for the full realization of its mission.
