Forum Highlights WTO Challenges
China Culture Industry Forum undertaken by Jiangsu Province was kicked off in
the Hilton Hotel in Nanjing, gathering together about 130 guests from home and
abroad. Liu Guangxi, deputy principal of the School of International Business
and Economics in Shanghai, and Zhang Xiaoming, deputy secretary-general of
Chinese Social Academy Cultural Research Center, delivered speeches in the
forum, addressing on the present situation of China's culture industry and
countermeasures in face of WTO challenges.
Zhang Xiaoming pointed out in his speech titled WTO Impacts on China's
Culture Industry that China is not on a par with developed countries in the
culture industry. China is rich in cultural resources but its culture consuming
power is really small, and there are big differences between China's culture
industrial rules and systems and those of western developed countries.
Liu Guangxi lectured on prospects of China's post-WTO culture industry. In
his point of view, China should break away from the combined influences from
traditional petty agricultural economy, feudal absolutism and Confucianism while
opening up to the outside world. Only in this way can the country create a
favorable environment for cultural development.
