China Mawangdui Historical Relics Exhibit in Seoul
The exhibition
of the historical relics excavated from Mawangdui in Hunan Province of China
opens on 31st in the Art Gallery of the Arts Palace in Seoul, Korea. These
relics with a history of more than 2,000 years arouse the great interest of the
Korean people.
This is the
first time for Mawangdui relics to be exhibited in Korea. There are altogether
108 sets and 176 items of relics unearthed at Mawangdui on display, including
the coffin with colorful paintings on bright-red bottom, a silk brocade robe, a
double-layer of lacquer toilet case painted with nine kids, a handless lacquer
wine cup, a deep-red silk gown with printed flowers and dressed colors on the
gauze covered with silk, cut in straight both in the front and back and other
original artifacts, of which 17 are Class One relics of China.
Jin Zegong, Vice
Director of Cultural Department of Hunan Province, says at the opening ceremony
that this exhibition is more significant because it happens to be held on the
occasion of 30th anniversary of the excavation of Mawangdui relics and 10th
anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and
Korea.
Ahn Kuk-joeng,
Special Director of Seoul Broadcasting Company,says that the relics unearthed at Mawangdui is a miracle in the
history of world archeological excavation and valuable cultural heritage of the
world as well, showing the brilliant and dazzling ancient civilization of China.
This exhibition is sure to further increase the mutual understanding between the
peoples of Korea and China. It also provides a good opportunity for the
youngsters on the summer vacation to understand the ancient civilization of
China.
Li Bing,
Ambassador of China to Korea, is present at the opening ceremony. After the
opening ceremony, more than 100 people from all walks of life and youngsters
visit the exhibition with great interest. Some Korean teenagers also make a copy
of the captions seriously at the exhibition.
This relics
exhibition is jointly sponsored by Seoul Broadcasting Company and Duoshuai Space
Co., Ltd. and assisted by the Korean Ministry of Culture and Sightseeing and the
Chinese Embassy in Korea. The exhibition will last until September
29th.
