With an area of more than 264 sq. km, the Wulingyuan Scenic and Historic Interest Area, located in Zhangjiajie City, Hunan Province, consists of three sections: the Zhangjiajie National Forest Reserve, the Suoxi Brook area and the Mt. Tianzi area. The major topography consists of sandstone hills, evolving into many bizarre peaks, ravines and gorges with streams, pools and waterfalls. The area owns a great deal of historic geological relics and species. In 1992, Wulingyuan was put on the World Natural Heritage List.

The landscape of Wulingyuan is world famous for the striking beauty of its landscape, especially for five wonders: spectacular peaks, unique rocks, secluded valleys, serene waters and deep karst caves.
