Located in 8 km east of Yixian
County, Anhui Province, Xidi Village proper first established in the Song
Dynasty (960-1279). Backed by picturesque hills and towering ancient woods, the
village is noted for the harmony of its architecture. There are now 122 civil
residences displaying a strong flavor of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). Potted
plants, fishing pools and flowerbeds give the whole village a sense of harmony
with nature and culture. Xidi Village was listed in the UNESCO World Cultural
Heritage List in November, 2000.
Located in 11 km north of Yixain
County, Anhui Province, Hongcun Village was built in the Southern Song Dynasty
(1127-1129). There is one house of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and 132 houses
of the Qing Dynasty. The Principal Street connects the South Lake and the Moon
Pond to the north and south, respectively. A nearly one-meter-wide river runs
through each household. Hongcun Village was listed in the UNESCO World
Cultural Heritage List in November, 2000.
