Located in Songpai County, Sichuan
Province, the Huanglong Area covers an area of about 700 sq. km. In a
7.5-kilometer-long valley, the travertine falls and limestone shoals, in the
shape of U set between high hills and snowy mountains, run from an elevation
of 3,578 meters down to 2,200 meters like a soaring yellow dragon (Huanglong
in Chinese). In 1992, it was included in the UNESCO World Natural Heritage
List.
The Huanglong Area is a rare site of
limestone landscapes. It is also renowned for its mountain landscape, diverse
forest ecosystems, waterfalls and hot springs.
