Located in
Nanping County, Sichuan Province, the Jiuzhaigou Valley Scenic and Historic
Interest Area covers over 720 sq. km. It was named after nine Tibetan villages
along the valley. The valley stretching over 50 km is a combination of wonderful
scenery and specific Tibetan flavor. Jiuzhaigou Valley occupies a unique
position in China's scenic spots and historic sites. In 1992, it was included
in the UNESCO World Natural Heritage
List.
Jiuzhaigou is an unusual ecosystem,
with narrow conic karst landforms, renowned for its rolling mountains, dense
forests, colorful lakes and precipitous waterfalls. There are altogether 2,576
species of protophyte and nearly 30,000-hectare virgin forest. Jiuzhaigou Valley
is of extremely high scientific and esthetic
value.
