This Mountain is located in the
southern part of Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province and to the south of the Yangtze
River. Its highest peak Hanyang is 1,474 m above sea level. The picturesque
Mountain became a Buddhist center during the Eastern Han Dynasty (58-76). There
are three famous temples and other historic and cultural relics in the scenic
area. It was included in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List in 1996.
The scenery in the Lushan scenic area
is breathtaking. It is cool and pleasant in the summer, and therefore enjoys the
reputation as a famous summer resort. Some verse and inscriptions on the cliffs,
as well as other writings, prints and calligraphic works are of great value,
left behind by noted figures in history when they visited the
mountain.
The unique landscape and abundant
flora such as pines, queer rocks, waterfalls and seas of clouds make Mt. Lushan
become a famous tourist site in the south of
China.
