Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka cooperated with Sri Lanka-China Social and Cultural Cooperation Association held four times a photo show of the World Heritage in China at Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka, the well-known historic cities Anuradhapura and Galle one following another. The show has proved a complete success.
On September 14th, as a part of activities in celebration of China's 52nd National Day, the first show was opened at the National Public Library in Colombo. Chief Minister of Sri Lankan West Province Lejinord Kuler and the Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Jiang Qinzheng attended the ceremony and viewed the exhibits.
Soon afterwards, the Sino-Sri Lanka Social, Cultural and Cooperation Association will have a show at Anuradhapura and Galle respectively.
On November 28th, the fourth show was held at Colombo's President High School. Executive Abe Sekra, Secretary-General of Social, Cultural and Cooperation Association, said that the association plans to have the photo show held in all the nine schools run by the Association successively, one held each month so as to let more youngsters understand China. The whole process of the photo show held in Sri Lanka is planned to last nearly a year, mainly in schools.
On display were about 60 photos depicting historic sites and scenic spots listed as world heritage in China. They revealed China's cultural splendor and scenic beauty, while at the same time manifested the achievements China has obtained in protecting cultural and natural heritage. These photos, elaborately wrought after well-chosen objects, attracted a flood of visitors. Among them were pupils from elementary and secondary schools who were greatly interested in the Chinese culture. Some Buddhists present at the show paid homage to the Buddhist relics demonstrated in some photos.
During the show period, newspapers, magazines and other printed materials publicizing Chinese culture and China's achievements since reforms and opening-up were distributed among the visitors.
Executive Secretary General Abe Sekra, one of the chief organizers of the show, said that he believes the show will certainly promote further understanding of China by Sri Lankan people, in particular the youngsters. He added that he had no doubt that the show would also make contribution to the cultural exchanges and friendship between the two countries.
