During the period from November to December 2001, Chinese Embassy in Britain held for many times a large-scale photo show of the World Cultural Heritage in China at the Embassy's banquet hall. It proved a complete success with visitors added up to 2,500.
Dozens of large-sized photos display world cultural heritage in China. Guests present at the reception manifested much interest in the photos. Many were fascinated with the imposing Great Wall, the dignifying terra cotta soldiers and horses of the First Emperor of the Qin Dynasty, the magnificent Dunhuang Grottoes, and the graceful Huangshan Mountain. They were amazed by China's profound cultural heritage while admiring China's efforts in protecting cultural relics.
British Minister of Culture, Information and Physical Culture Ms Theisa Jover watched the exhibits with interest in the company of Chinese cultural attache. She said, The scenery depicted by these photos is bewitchingly beautiful, and the photos themselves are also spectacular. I am looking forward to my visit to China in May 2002 when I can get in touch in person the old Chinese civilization.
Mr. Linton, Director of Bureau of Agriculture under the British Ministry of Environmental Protection, Foodstuff and Rural Affairs, said that he is very fond of China's long history and old culture. He has been to China on business for more than 10 times. Each time he would spare some time for historic sites and scenic spots. What impressed him deepest is the terra cotta soldiers and horses of the First Emperor of the Qin Dynasty, the magnificence and grandeur of which well deserve to be called Eighth Wonder of the World.
It is reported that another large-scale photo show of the World Heritage in China will be sponsored by Chinese Embassy in Britain, to be held in 2002 on the occasion when the Sino-Britain Friendship Association is holding a Spring Festival luncheon, so as to let more British people understand China's cultural heritage and the efforts the Chinese people made in protecting it.
