To mark the 30th anniversary of the restoration of China's legal seat in the United Nations, a photo show of the World Heritage in China, co-sponsored by Chinese Embassy in Ethiopia and Ethiopian Ministry of Youth, Physical Culture and Culture, was held at Ethiopian National Museum from December 21st to 30th, 2001. On display are photos featuring 27 UNESCO cultural and natural heritage sites in China.
Around 150 people attended the opening ceremony, among whom are Vice-Minister of Ethiopian Youth Physical Culture Ms Jifti Abasia, former Vice Minister of Information and Culture and Vice Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Ms Bislat Gshotna,senior officials of Ministry of Youth, Physical Culture and Culture, people in Ethiopian press and cultural circles and foreign diplomats in Ethiopia.
Ms Jifti Abasia spoke at the meeting on behalf of the Ministry of Youth Physical Culture. She pointed out in particular that the agreement on cultural exchange signed in 1988 between the two countries had served to strengthen the cooperation between the two sides in the fields of culture, physical Culture and youth. The Ethiopian government hopes that mutually beneficial cooperation such as exchange of information and experts, visiting between delegations, etc., will be further enhanced in days to come. She believes that such cultural exchanges will be contributive to the development of bilateral relationship as well as consolidation of friendship between peoples of the two countries.
Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia also spoke at the meeting. He mentioned that since China restored her legal seat in the United Nations in 1971, as a founding member of the United Nations as well as a permanent member of its Security Council, China has always uplifted the banner of peace, development and cooperation, and supported the United Nations in its role in world affairs in the light of the United Nations Charter. Henceforth China will take part as always in affairs of the United Nations and make sustained efforts to strengthen the functions played by United Nation, maintain and promote world peace, security and development together with other members of the United Nations, so as to build a world of lasting peace and common prosperity. Ethiopia and China have both long history and glorious culture. To date effective cooperation between the two countries in the fields of politics, economy and culture has been conducted in a mutual supporting and complementing way.
