Photo Show of World Heritage in China Opens in Syria

To mark the 30th anniversary of the restoration of China's legal seat in the Unites Nations, a photo show of the World Heritage in China sponsored by Chinese Embassy in Syria was opened in Damascus, Syria on the 29th.

On display are 53 photos depicting the 27 sites which have been approved by UNASCO as world cultural and natural heritage, including the site of Peking Man (Sinanthropus pekinensis), the Great Wall, the Imperial Palace in Beijing, and the Mausoleum of the First Emperor of the Qin Dynasty, Huangshan Mountain, Wulinyuan (source of peach blossom grove), Huanglong (a scenic spot in Sichuan Province), Taishan Mountain, Jiuzhagou, Wudang Mountain, etc. The show is to last for three days.

Chinese Ambassador to Syria Shi Yanchun and Member of All-Syria Progressive Front Leading Organization Daniale cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony. Over 250 people were present at the ceremony, including high officials from Syrian government departments and people from cultural, press and other circles.

In a speech made at the opening ceremony, Ambassador Shi Yanchun stressed that China could not be separated from the world, just like the world could not be separated from China. He added that since the restoration of her legal seat in the United Nations, China had played a distinctive role on the world stage.

He congratulated Syria on her being elected nonpermanent member of the Security Council of the United Nations. He said that as a permanent member of the Security Council, China would like to strengthen cooperation and coordination with Syria in world affairs for world peace and security. He expressed heartfelt thanks to Syria, Algeria and other countries for their efforts in restoring China's legal seat in the United Nations. He also gave an account of the achievements China had obtained since China's reforms and opening-up.
