To introduce the world heritage in China to Chilean people and promote exchanges between the two countries, a photo show of the World Heritage in China was opened on the 20th at the City Hall of Chile's second largest city Valparaiso. It procured warm welcome from local government officials and people in all circles.
The photo show was co-sponsored by Valparaiso City Government, the city's Peking 2001 Friends-of-Chinese-People Association and Chinese Embassy in Chile. Valparaiso Acting Mayor Aleyano, Vice-President of Peking 2001 Friends-of-Chinese-People Association Salvado and Chinese Ambassador to Chile Ren Jingyu attended the opening ceremony and watched the exhibits.
The 20-odd-day show had offered the residents of the historic and cultural city Valparaiso a wonderful opportunity to have a close look at China's old civilization through the 60-plus photos focused on the 28 sites confirmed by UNESCO as world cultural and natural legacy.
Acting Mayor Aleyano and Ambassador Ren Jingyu spoke respectively at the opening ceremony. They highly praised the traditional friendship and amicable contacts between the people of the two countries, and said that the show could help to promote mutual understanding and enhance extensive cooperation. Aleyano emphatically pointed out that as Valparaiso aimed to be a UNASCO cultural heritage site, it would learn from China her experience in protecting cultural relics and human historic legacy.
Prior to the photo show of the World Heritage in China held at Valparaiso's City Hall, it was displayed at the City's Chilean National Congress from January 18th to February 9th this year.
