On April 25th, three performances of a concert entitled Best wishes to China were staged at Eich Theater, played by Luxembourg's second largest city Eich's City Orchestra. In the second part of the performances, all pieces played were Chinese musical compositions.
Chinese Ambassador Ding Baohua, Luxembourg Labor Minister Billergen, State Secretary in charge of environmental affairs Belshe, former Prime Minister Saunt, foreign diplomatic envoys in Luxembourg and people from various circles attended the first performance held on the 26th and the reception after the concert.
Ambassador Ding highly commended the performance and the friendship between the two countries in the speech he made at the reception. Luxembourg Prime Minister made a phone call to the orchestra from Belgium beforehand, saying that he would hasten back for the concert. He failed to arrive delayed by business.
The orchestra, who never heard musical pieces played with Chinese instruments, performed following the music score. Despite their limited comprehension in Chinese music, the musicians were passionate in their performance that is distinctive of Chinese flavor. Warm applause rose for each item, and three extra pieces were added at the end of the program as repeatedly requested by the audience who would not tear themselves away from the theatre.
As it happened to be the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Luxembourg, the performance could be taken as a prelude to a series of celebrations for the occasion. To coordinate with the performance, Chinese Embassy held a photo show of the World Heritage in China at the Eich Theater's Entrance Hall Gallery from April 11th to 28th. Ambassador Ding hosted the opening ceremony and delivered an address in which he gave an account of the bilateral exchanges between the two countries and expressed his wishes that the Luxembourg people in all circles go touring China so that they could get firsthand information about China. Luxembourg Family and Youth Minister Yacopas and people from various circles amounting to over 100 who attended the opening ceremony, highly commended China's cultural and natural heritage. Usually, before and during the interval of the performance, audience could have a look at the exhibits as they pleased.
