To celebrate the 53rd anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Argentina, the Photo Show of World Heritage in China and Exhibition of Traditional Chinese Painting was held in the well-known Argentine seaside city Mar del Plata.

The exhibition was co-sponsored by the Chinese Embassy in Argentina, Argentine Research Center of Chinese Culture and Mar del Plata municipal government. There were 52 photos depicting Chinese cultural and natural legacy and 30 traditional Chinese wash paintings on display. Chinese Ambassador Zhang Shaying, cultural attache Zhang Yi and Argentine representatives attended the opening ceremony and made passionate speeches. About 300 people visited the exhibition.

The venue of the exhibition, Mar del Plata Castanino Art Museum, is named after the distinguished Argentine artist Juan Carlos Castanino, a native of Mar del Plata and a contemporary master of art. He visited China as early as 1952, shortly after the founding of the People's Republic of China. He made quite a number of fine pieces about China of which some figure sketches are kept in the museum.
