In 2000 when visiting Korea, Premier Zhu Rongji reached a consensus with President Kim Dae-jung to establish a Cultural Center of China in Korea.
The Cultural Center of China in Korea will devote itself to popularizing China and the Chinese Culture, to strengthen the exchanges and cooperation between China and Korea in the field of culture, to further the understanding between the peoples of the two countries, and to promote the development of the friendship between the two countries and the cultural undertakings of the two countries.
For carrying out the consensus of the leaders of the two countries, the Cultural Ministry of China has done a lot of work. Now the selection of the site for the Cultural Center is finished. The Cultural Center of China, a six-story building in a novel style, is located at Seodaemun-gu, Hyoja-dong of the downtown area of Seoul, Korea.
When the Cultural Center of China is open to the public, it will run various kinds of classes including Chinese language, Chinese music, dancing, fine arts, martial arts and calligraphy. There will also be a library, a projection hall and a small theater in the Center, introducing the Chinese culture periodically to the people of all walks in Korea. Besides, it will also propagandize China to the Korean teenagers with high-tech means such as the network.
