China Symphony Orchestra is one of the best professional symphony orchestras. Formerly it was called the Central Symphony Orchestra, which was founded in 1956. It was changed to its present name since restructuring in 1996. The present head of the orchestra is Mr. Yu Sonlin. The orchestra has a staff of well-trained performers with consummate skills among whom some are award-winners in music contests at home and abroad.

The orchestra plays a leading role in carrying forward Chinese symphonic orchestral art. Through unremitting efforts by musicians over several generations, it not only maintains a lasting and profound influence at home but also enjoys a high reputation in world musical circles. For many years the orchestra has engaged in improving performing skills, popularizing knowledge of symphonic music, encouraging and extending symphonic music creation and promoting domestic and world music exchanges. As a result, wherever it goes, the orchestra is well received by a huge audience.
