On July 18th, 2002, the first Week of Chinese Culture in Egypt coordination meeting was held in Beijing attended by the leading officials of relevant units.

Major content concerning the cultural week was declared at the meeting:

1. Minister of Culture Sun Jiazheng is to head a 7-person government and cultural delegation for an official visit;

2. Minister of Culture Sun Jiazheng is to deliver an address on China's cultural development;

3. The Central National Musical Instruments Orchestra, the Acrobatics Troupe of China and the Peking Opera Theater of China are to be sent to visit and give performances;

4. A Show of Chinese Plastic Arts displaying oil painting, engraving, watercolor, small-size sculpture, and modeling of Peking Opera figures is to be held;

5. A symposium entitled History and Prospects of Cultural Exchanges between China and Egypt between Chinese and Egyptian experts and scholars is to be held;

6. An Inauguration Ceremony for the Cultural Center of China is to be held (including Sun Jiazheng cutting the ribbon at the ceremony, running a Chinese character exhibition at the Center and watching major facilities of the Center); and

7. Press video cameramen, photographers, and reporters from CCTV and China Cultural Press are to be invited to accompany on the visit and make reports.
