At 2 o'clock p.m., October 28th, Egyptian Premier Aubert met with at the Premier's Residence Sun Jiazheng, Chinese Minister of Culture, and all members of the Cultural Delegation of the Chinese Government headed by him.
Premier Aubert set a high value on the friendship between China and Egypt. He hopes that the exchanges and cooperation between the cultural circles of the two countries will be enhanced and raises three proposes: 1. To recommend each other's cultural achievements through publications; 2. To make known each other's state of affairs in all respects through movies and television; and 3. To cooperate through web systems, and to popularize cyber-education through co-producing inexpensive but good computers.
Sun Jiazheng said that through his visit to Egypt, he was deeply impressed with Egypt's splendid ancient civilization and her creditable achievements in modernization construction. Egypt's historical relics are well preserved, he said. China and Egypt, as two countries both with old civilization, are confronting the same two problems namely, first, how to keep pace with the times on the way towards modernization, and secondly, how to preserve our own characteristics and our ideological and cultural independence in the process of economic globalization.
At the end of the meeting, the Chinese Minister and Egyptian Premier answered questioned put forward by journalists and gave an account of the activities of the Week of Chinese Culture launched and the Cultural Center of China established in Egypt.
On the morning of the same day, the Chinese Minister of Culture Sun Jiazheng and his Egyptian counterpart held official talks. Both sides discussed problems concerning cooperation in the fields of protection of cultural relics, exchanges of information, cultural property, electronics publication, etc. It is reported that in order to push forward the exchanges and protection of cultural relics between the two countries, cooperation shall be enhanced in the protection and restoration of cultural relics.
