The Acrobatic Troupe of China,
currently one of the best known at home, was founded in October 1950. It is
composed of two sub-troupes, a circus troupe and a school of acrobatics and
circus (known both as Beijing Municipal International Art School and Beijing
Municipal Acrobatics School). To date the troupe has accumulated hundreds of
excellent items on the program unique style of its own.
Among the popular items are Trick Cycling,
Two Performers Playing One Diabolo, Juveniles' Earthen Jar, Rolling Glasses,
Getting Into Barrels, Balancing on a Plank, Soft-Wire Walking', which have been
awarded golden medals at international competitions; Pagoda of Bowls for Four
Performers, Playing Diabolo, Pole Climbing, Balancing on a Plank by Two
Performers, Getting Into Ground Hoops and Kicking Bowls while Balancing on a
Plank which, performed in 1981 by students from Beijing Acrobatics School, were
granted 6 gold medals with 2 championships at international acrobatics festivals
held respectively in Hungary, Monte Carlo, St. Petersburg and Warsaw; Group
Cycling, Spinning of Butterflies, Pagoda of Bowls by Four, and Camel Taming,
which were awarded 4 gold medals; and 'Balancing on Chairs', 'Magic Show --
Colorful Fans Vying for Beauty', and 'Juggling the Umbrellas with Feet', which
was awarded 7 silver medals, all in nationwide acrobatics
competitions.
Since 1994 the troupe has staged programs
for 7 evening parties of entertainment one after another, entitled respectively
Tianqiao Customs of Old-time Beijing, Classic Fairy Tale of China, Flower
Rainbow, Romantic Charm of China, Large-Scale Chinese Circus, Magic Oriental
Art, and National Spirit of China, each featuring different style. The
large-scale comprehensive acrobatics evening of entertainment called All-kinds
Tang-Dynasty Performances Representing Spirit of China recommended to tourists
at home and abroad by Beijing Bureau of Tourism and Beijing Bureau of Culture as
excellent, has been given to audience in succession over a long period of time
at the International Theater in Beijing Baoli Building. It was awarded 7 silver
medals in the appraisal activity of 1996-1999 Beijing New Items.
The troupe has received warm welcome in more
than 70 countries and regions they visited. Over the years it has gathered and
trained a large number of skilled acrobats, among whom the most outstanding ones
include Yang Xiaoting, Pi Defu, Guan Yuhe, Cheng Lianbo, Qin Bin, Jin Yeqin, Ge
Shuwang, Zhang Guosheng, Pu Jifa, Jin Zhen, Yin Zhenhong, Chen Liben, Cheng
Shaolin, Wang Guiying, Song Huiling, Sun Lili, Wang Jianmin, Qi Fenglin, Luo
Bingsong, Zhang Shaojie, You Dongsheng, Chang Junju, etc.
