In Speaking of Depth, It Means to Strike Root in the Heart of the People
At the turn of March and April, the spring breeze is warm and gentle. On the occasion of 10th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between China and Korea and 30th anniversary of the normalization of the diplomatic relations between China and Japan, the Cultural Delegation of the People's Government headed by Sun Jiazheng, Minister of the Cultural Ministry, pays a visit to Korea and Japan. The speech delivered by Sun Jiazheng in the two nations is warmly received by the audience.
At Kyung-Hee University in Korea and at the Social Hall of Economic News in Tokyo, Sun Jiazheng makes a presentation on the topics of To Add a New Chapter of Sino-Korean Cultural Exchanges Hand in Hand in the New Century and To Develop the Sino-Japanese Relationship with Joint Efforts to Face the Future respectively. In his speech, Sun Jiazheng emphasizes that the foundation of a long-term friendly cooperation between different countries is the communication between people's hearts and that there is no other communication between people's hearts better than cultural changes. He also says cultural exchanges must be developed in depth instead of remaining only on the surface. In speaking of depth, it means to strike root in the heat of the people. This is the real significance of cultural exchanges.
The two speeches are delivered at different surroundings to different audiences and so are Minister Sun's speaking styles. Nevertheless, the same resonance is aroused in the different audiences. The atmosphere in the meeting-place is warm and lively. Understanding smiles and warm applauses resound again and again.
