On the afternoon of August 5, the 2002 Beseto Art Festival ¡¤Tokyo Show co-sponsored by the Beseto Arts Rejuvenation Society, Mass Organization Korean International Arts Exchange Association and China Calligraphers and Artists Union was solemnly opened at Tokyo's Japan-China Friendship Guild's Art Gallery. Chinese Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Japan Wu Dawei, president of Japan-China Friendship Guild Murakami Riikyu, official of cultural department of Korean Embassy in Japan Kim Junghau, and representative artists from China, Japan and ROK attended the opening ceremony and cut the ribbon. A 17-person China Calligraphers and Artists Delegation headed by Zhao Xuejian, president of Beseto Art Festival Beijing headquarter came on a special trip to Japan for the opening ceremony and relevant activities.
The Beseto Art Festival was started in 1995. Henceforth it was held in turn in Seoul, Tokyo and Beijing. To date 8 times of the festival have been successfully conducted, providing an occasion of mutual learning and exchanges among the artists. The show held this time displays more than 120 masterpieces made by calligraphers and artists from the three countries. It is a high-level art exchange activity. On display are works of famous Chinese calligraphers and artists including Shen Peng, Liu Bingsen, Li Duo, Ouyang Zhongshi, Song Wenzhi, Huang Zhou, Ya Ming, Zhang Ding, Cui Zifan, etc.
The successful running of the show this time is a grand event in the history of China-Japan-Korea art exchanges. It added luster to the activities of In commemoration of 30th anniversary of normalization of diplomatic relations between China and Japan---China¡¤Japan Cultural Year and China-Japan-Korea Nationals Exchange Year.
The show is to come to a close on August 10. The Cultural Office of Chinese Embassy in Japan backed the activity.
