(2002/10/05)

To mark 30th anniversary of normalization of diplomatic relations between China and Japan, the Miyata Masayuki Art Show was held in Nagoya, Japan from October 3rd to 8th. The Chinese Embassy in Japan backed the show. Chinese Ambassador to Japan Wu Dawei wrote words of congratulations on the show.

The late Miyata Masayuki was a distinguished Japanese knife-force painting artist. He ha been to China many times in his lifetime and took great efforts in promoting cultural exchanges, in particular exchanges in the field of fine arts between China and Japan.

On display are 200-plus masterpieces of knife-force painting reflecting classic Chinese epics of which the main contents include four parts: Records of the Historian, Outlaws of the Marsh, Tang Dynasty Tales and Three Kingdoms. It is rarely seen in Japan the artistic creation of paintings using Chinese classics as subject matter.

To co-ordinate with the Miyata Masayuki Art Show, the Japanese Ordinary Press published a special volume entitled Miyata Masayuki Knife-Force Paintings -- Records of the Historian, Outlaws of the Marsh, Tang Dynasty Tales and Three Kingdoms to mark 30th anniversary of normalization of Sino-Japanese diplomatic relations. Selected Chinese Classical Works with Illustrations were also displayed during the show period.
